A customary eight-race program is on the agenda at Churchill Downs on Thursday, September 22 — the second “Twilight Thursday” program of the 2022 September stand in Derby City. First post is 5:00 P.M. (Eastern).
The featured seventh race on the program is a $125,000 first-tier allowance contest for three-year-olds and upward sprinting six-furlongs on the main track.
Stonestreet Stables, LLC’s Marsalis, who will be making his first start since March 26 at Fair Grounds, is the 3-1 morning line choice in a field that attracted 12 entrants in the race’s body and four also eligible entrants. Jockey Ricardo Santana, Jr. has the call on the chestnut son of Curlin for Hall-of-Fame conditioner Steve Asmussen.
Two Winners On Wednesday’s Card — $2.20 ROI
Steam gave out two winners and had a return on investment (ROI*) of $2.20 for each $2 wagered on its top picks on Wednesday’s nine-race program at Churchill Downs and, as a result, five days into the 2022 September Meet in Louisville, KY, its top selections are winning at a 13 percent clip and have finished in the money 48 percent of the time.
Additionally on Thursday’s program, there is a $94,249 carryover in the 20-cent Derby City 6 (races 3-8, 5:58 P.M. (Eastern) post time, and a $3,752 carryover in the $1 Super Hi-5 (8th race, 8:23 P.M. (Eastern) post time).
Live racing will be conducted under the Twin Spires in September Wednesdays through Sundays through October 2 with a daily post time of 12:45 P.M. (Eastern). Exceptions include a 5:00 P.M. (Eastern) first post on Thursday, September 22 and Thursday, September 29, and a 6:00 P.M. (Eastern) first post on Saturday, September 24.
