11 races including a pair of graded stakes are on the docket at Churchill Downs on Saturday, October 1–the penultimate day of the 2022 September Meet at the iconic Louisville, KY racetrack.

The stakes action begins in the ninth race with the $300,000 Ack Ack Stakes (G3), a one-mile dirt event around one-turn for three-year-olds and upward, and concludes in the tenth race with the $500,000 Lukas Classic (G2), a nine-furlong contest on the main track for three-year-olds and upward.

In the Ack Ack Stakes (G3), Godolphin, LLC’s Speaker’s Corner, fourth at odds-on in the Pat O’Brien Stakes (G2) in his most recent start at Del Mar on August 27, is the even-money morning line choice in a field that attracted 10 entrants. Jockey Junior Alvarado will be in town from New York to ride the four-year-old bay son of Street Sense for Hall-of-Fame trainer Bill Mott.

In the Lukas Classic (G2), Roadrunner Racing, et al’s Hot Rod Charlie, third in the Whitney Stakes (G1) in his most recent start at Saratoga on August 6, is the 8-5 morning line favorite in a compact field of six. Tyler Gaffalione has the call on the four-year-old son of Oxbow for trainer Doug O’Neill.

Steam Has Hat Trick On Wednesday’s Program

Steam gave out three winners and had a return on investment (ROI*) of $4.09 for each $2 wagered on its top picks on Friday’s nine-race program at Churchill Downs and, as a result, with two days remaining at the 2022 September Meet in Derby City, its top selections are winning at a 17 percent clip and have finished in the money 61 percent of the time.

Additionally on Saturday’s program, there is a $25,517 carryover in the 20-cent Derby City 6 Jackpot (races 6-11, 3:18 P.M. (Eastern) post time).
