Grade One Spinster Crown Jewel On Sunday
The $600,000 Juddmonte Spinster Stakes (G1)–a nine-furlong contest for fillies and mares three-years-old and upward–highlights a 10-race program that includes a pair of supporting stakes at Keeneland Race Course on Sunday, October 9, as the venerable Central Kentucky racetrack closes out the opening weekend of its 2022 fall meet.
The card also features the $350,000 Castle & Key Bourbon Stakes (G2T) for two-year-olds slated for an eight and one half-furlong trip on the Haggin Turf Course, and the $250,000 Indian Summer Stakes presented by Keeneland Select for two-year-olds sprinting five and one half-furlongs on the grass.
In the Juddmonte Spinster Stakes (G1), Shadwell Stable’s Malathaat, a half-length winner of the Personal Ensign Stakes (G1) at Saratoga in her last start on August 27, is the definitive 3-5 morning line favorite in a compact field of five. Hall-of-Fame jockey John Velazquez has the call on the four-year-old bay daughter of Curlin for trainer Todd Pletcher.
Steam Touts Pair Of Winners On Saturday’d Card
Steam gave out a pair of winners on Saturday’s 11-race program at Keeneland and, as a result, two days into the nascent 2022 fall stand in Lexington, KY, its top selections are winning at a 14 percent clip and have finished in the money 29 percent of the time.
