Sophomores On Display On Saturday

A weekend of Thoroughbred racing continues in the Bluegrass State on Saturday, October 22 with a customary 10-race program on the docket at Keeneland Race Course in Lexington, KY.
The card features a pair of seven-furlong stakes races on the main track–the $250,000 Perryville Stakes for three-year-olds, and the $350,000 Lexus Raven Run Stakes (G2) for three-year-old fillies.
In the Perryville Stakes, Winchell Thoroughbreds, LLC’s Gunite, who annexed the Harrods Creek Stakes by three lengths in his last start at Churchill Downs on September 24, is the definitive 6-5 morning line choice in a field that attracted eight entrants. Tyler Gaffalione will be astride the three-year-old bay son of Gun Runner for trainer Steve Asmussen.
In the Raven Run Stakes (G2), Brad King et al’s Smash Ticket–an open-length winer of the Weather Vane Stakes at Pimlico in her last start on September 24–is the 5-2 morning line favorite in a competitive field of nine. Jockey Kendrick Carmouche has the call on the three-year-old daughter of Midnight Lute for trainer Rob Atras.
