The card features a trio of stakes races–the $200,000 Bowman Mill Stakes for two-year-olds sprinting six-furlongs on the main track, the $300,000 Bryan Station Stakes (G3T) for three-year-olds slated for an eight-furlong trip on the Haggin Turf Course, and the $350,000 Hagyard Fayette Stakes (G2), a nine-furlong dirt test for three-year-olds and upward.
In the Fayette Stakes (G2), the program’s centerpiece, West Point Thoroughbreds, LLC et al’s First Captain, third in the Jockey Club Gold Cup (G1) in his last start at Saratoga on September 3, is the definitive 6-5 morning line choice in a compact field of five. Jockey Luis Saez will be astride the four-year-old chestnut son of Curlin for Hall-of-Fame conditioner Shug McGaughey.
