Churchill Downs kicks-off its 19-day fall meeting on Sunday, October 30 with its “Stars of Tomorrow I” program–a card devoted exclusively to two-year-old racing.

Sunday’s 11-race program for the juveniles features a pair of 8.5-furlong stakes races–the $200,000 Rags to Riches Stakes, for two-year-old fillies, and the $200,000 Street Sense Stakes (G3) for two-year-olds.

Lucky Seven Stable’s Fun and Feisty, eighth in the Darley Alcibiades Stakes (G1) in her last start at Keeneland on October 7, is the 2-1 choice on the morning line in the Rags to Riches Stakes, which attracted a compact field of six. Brian Hernandez, Jr. will be astride the daughter of Midshipman for trainer Kenny McPeek.

In the Street Sense Stakes (G3), Winchell Thoroughbreds, LLC’s Red Route One, third in the Claiborne Breeders’ Futurity Stakes (G1) at Keeneland in his last start on October 8, is the 3-1 morning line favorite in a full field of 11. Jockey Ricardo Santana, Jr. has the call on the chestnut son of Gun Runner for trainer Steve Asmussen.

Asmussen, Gaffalione Return To Defend Titles

Jockey Tyler Gaffalione, who was the leading rider at Churchill Downs last fall with 34 wins, will be back to defend his title in 2022 and has 10 mounts on Sunday’s program in Derby City. Hall-of-Fame trainer Steve Asmussen, who has six horses running on opening day, won the training title last fall in Louisville, KY, sending out 20 winners.

Live racing will be conducted under the Twin Spires this fall Wednesdays through Sundays through November 27 with a daily post time of 1:00 P.M. (Eastern). Exceptions include a pair of dark days on Friday, November 4 and Saturday, November 5 when Keeneland hosts the Breeders’ Cup, and an 11:30 A.M. (Eastern) post time on Thanksgiving Day, Thursday, November 24.
