Sophomores In Spotlight On New Year’s Day

Three stakes races for three-year-olds–the $100,000 Limehouse Stakes, the $100,000 Cash Run Stakes, and the $150,000 Mucho Macho Man Stakes–are on the agenda at Gulfstream Park on Sunday, January 1, as the Hallandale Beach, Fla. racetrack kicks-off 2023 with a 10-race program.
The centerpiece of the stakes trifecta is the Mucho Macho Man Stakes; the eight-furlong affair, which will be contested around one-turn on the main track, attracted a full field of 11.
Courtlandt Farms’ General Jim, third in the Central Park Stakes on turf in his last start at Aqueduct on November 26, is the tepid 4-1 morning line choice in the one-mile contest. Jockey Luis Saez has the call on the bay son of Into Mischief for Hall of Fame trainer Shug McGaughey.
