Florida-Breds In Spotlight On Saturday’s Card

11 races are on tap, including a pair of stakes races for Florida-breds, at Gulfstream Park on Saturday, January 14, as a weekend of Thoroughbred racing continues in South Florida.

The black type action begins in the ninth race with the $75,000 Sunshine Filly & Mare Turf Stakes, a one-mile contest for Florida-bred fillies and mares four-years-old and upward, and continues in the tenth race with the $75,000 Sunshine Sprint Stakes, an six-furlong dirt contest for four-year-olds and upward foaled in the state of Florida.

In the Sunshine Filly & Mare Turf, Jeffrey Lambert’s Sugar Fix, second in the 2022 edition of this eight-furlong contest, is the 2-1 morning line choice in a field that attracted eight entrants. Tyler Gaffalione has the call on the six-year-old bay daughter of Treasure Beach (GB) for trainer Todd Bob Hess, Jr.

In the Sunshine Sprint, Reeves Thoroughbred Racing et al’s Legends Can’t Die, second in his main track debut at Gulfstream Park on December 22, is the 3-1 morning line favorite in a field that attracted seven entrants. Jockey Joel Rosario will be astride the gray son of Valiant Minister for trainer George Weaver.

Steam Touts Three Winners On Friday’s Program

Steam gave out three winners on Friday’s nine-race program at Gulfstream Park and, as a result, 14 days into the 2022-23 Championship Meet, its top selections are winning at a 23 percent clip and have finished in the money 63 percent of the time.

Post time for the first of 11 races at Gulfstream Park on Saturday, January 14 is 12:10 P.M. (Eastern). Additionally, there is a $175,00 carryover in the 20-cent Rainbow 6 Jackpot (races 6-11, 2:39 P.M. (Eastern) post time), and a $3,588 carryover in the $1 Super Hi-5 (11th race, 5:06 P.M. (Eastern) post time).
