Five Stakes For Sophomores On Saturday

A 12-race program chock full off stakes races for three-year-olds is on the docket at Gulfstream Park on Saturday, February 4, as a weekend of Thoroughbred racing continues in South Florida.
The card features five stakes for the sophomores–the $125,000 Claiborne Farm Swale Stakes (G3), a seven-furlong dirt contest, the $175,000 Kitten’s Joy Stakes (G3T), an 8.5-furlong turf test; the $125,000 Forward Gal Stakes (G3), a seven-furlong main track event for the fillies; the $175,000 Sweetest Chant Stakes (G3T), an 8.5-furlong turf event for the fillies, and the $250,000 Holy Bull Stakes (G3), a dirt route race slated for a mile and a sixteenth trip.
In the Holy Bull Stakes (G3)–the program’s signature event–Albaugh Family Stables, LLC et al’s Cyclone Mischief, who won his first start in the Sunshine State by open lengths on January 8, is the 2-1 morning line favorite in a field that attracted eight entrants. Jockey Tyler Gaffalione has the call on the bay son of Into Mischief for trainer Dale Romans.
Steam Has Hat Trick On Friday’s Program
Steam gave out three winners on Friday’s nine-race program at Gulfstream Park and, as a result, 29 days into the 2022-23 Championship Meet, its top selections are winning at a 25 percent clip and have finished in the money 66 percent of the time.
Post time for the first of 12 races at Gulfstream Park on Saturday, February 4 is 11:50 A.M. (Eastern). Additionally, there is a $70,160 carryover in the 20-cent Rainbow 6 Jackpot (races 7-12, 2:45 P.M. (Eastern) post time), and a $10,647 carryover in the $1 Super Hi-5 (12th race, 5:43 P.M. (Eastern) post time).
