Two Turf Stakes On Tap On Saturday

A 12-race program featuring two stakes for turf sprinters is on the docket at Gulfstream Park in Hallandale Beach on Saturday, February 11, as Super Bowl weekend 2023 continues in South Florida.
The card is highlighted by a pair of five-furlong turf stakes races–the $100,000 Ladies’ Turf Sprint Stakes for fillies and mares four-years-old and upward, and the $100,000 Gulfstream Park Turf Sprint Stakes (G3T) for four-year-olds and upward.
In the Ladies’ Turf Sprint Stakes, Joseph Allen, LLC’s Stony Point, third in the Abundantia Stakes in her most recent start on December 24, is the tepid 4-1 morning line choice in a field that attracted seven entrants. Edgard Zayas has the call on the five-year-old daughter of War Front for trainer Shug McGaughey.
In the Gulfstream Park Turf Sprint Stakes (G3T), Peace Sign Stable’s Belgrano, who won the Janus Stakes in his most recent start at Gulfstream Park on Christmas Eve, is the 2-1 morning line favorite in a field that was scratched down to five entrants. Jockey Paco Lopez will be astride the nine-year-old bay son of War Front for trainer Frank Russo.
