Nine-races are on the docket at Ellis Park on Saturday, July 15, as a weekend of Thoroughbred racing action continues in the Tri-State Area.
The featured sixth race on the program is a $62,500 optional claiming/classified allowance contest for three-year-olds and upward. Originally scheduled to be run on the grass, the race was taken off the turf and will be contested at a nine-furlong trip on the main track
Russell Welch and Ran Leonard’s Rising Empire, seventh in the Dinner Party Stakes (G3T) at Pimlico in his most recent start on May 20, is the tepid 5-1 morning line choice in a field that was scratched down to five entrants. Jockey Brian Hernandez, Jr. has the call on the five-year-old son of Empire Maker for trainer Brendan Walsh.
